There are a number of interesting and crucial factors in our approach to chimpanzee conservation that will secure the success of PACT, our great ape preserve:

1. Initially, the connection to commercial work through Goin' Ape will partially secure the necessary start-up funding.

2. Operating with a small administrative staff will allow for a larger percentage of funds to go directly to the chimpanzee preserve, unlike many facilities where the majority of funding is spent on administration.

3. Fundraising.

While the specifics of the preserve plan will be developed with an architect, the plan will include the following:

(PHOTO 1)
One outdoor twelve-acre area that will be divided into four three-acre sub areas, allowing for a primate population of about fifty. The building of these areas will be done in phases. It will also include three buildings for indoor sleeping areas that will contain fifteen runs. This area is for sleeping and separation for medical reasons.
(PHOTO 2)
Boundaries will incorporate the use of electrified fences and natural barriers. Each area allowing for foraging and natural family group formation, providing climbable areas, nesting sites, water areas, and areas for independence.
(PHOTO 3)
The public viewing areas will be incorporated into the natural design giving the viewer a feeling of being among the chimps. Public viewing areas will include underground walkways. The chimpanzees and orangutans will be unaware that they are being viewed, encouraging natural behavior.
